Sustainable approaches to textile design: Lessons from biology

Models such as the circular economy, offer guidance to actors from fashion and textile industry on how navigate negative environmental, ethical, social impacts of sector’s current historic practices. The principles underpinning these models originate intersection biology general systems theory have provided us with valuable alternative paradigms via a top-down lens. This paper seeks explore potential for additional insight into sustainable design practice by reviewing emerging (ecology + view) within context bottom-up (biology engineering) approach. results suggest novel practice-based conceptual framework that could enable designers better understand mitigate resource efficiency, longevity recovery their decisions.
